The Naseem, a 27-metre motor yacht, has sunk following a fire, 5 miles off the coast of Santa Maria di Leuca, in Puglia. The crew was rescued by the Coast Guard.

The alarm sounded during the night between Thursday 12 and Friday 13 May. On the scene were the Lecce fire brigade, with a motorboat and specialist team sent in from Taranto, and a patrol vessel from the Port Authority which rescued the three-person crew. In spite of continued attempts to put out the fire until dawn, the fire caused the boat to sink.

The Coast Guard continued monitoring the water in the area surrounding the fire, with a CP886 patrol boat and Manta 10-01 airplane. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but an investigation by the Maritime Authority has begun, starting with questioning the three crew members, including the captain.
