Columbus Yachts, a brand belonging to Palumbo Superyachts, has just launched its new 50 metre full custom, aluminium megayacht, “Anjelif”. A custom model created to fulfil the needs of its expert owner and filled with technological and stylistic innovation, starting with its hybrid diesel/electric propulsion.
This superyacht also has two distinct kinds of highly innovative technology: one for air sanitization, purifying outside air through the use of nonthermal plasma; the other to sanitize rooms, carried out at predetermined intervals guaranteeing daily hygiene.
The former eliminates viruses and bacteria from the outside air, which is then used for ventilation and air conditioning, while the latter automates the sanitisation of all internal rooms of the vessel.
OUTDOOR CINEMA
The interior and exterior of the megayacht has been curated by Marco Casali from Too-Design, while engineering is by Palumbo Superyachts The interior design was rigorously developed using natural and ecological materials and includes a gym on the main deck, a sauna and massage parlour.
A breathtaking pool is set in the transom, with a visible teak finish, while a second Jacuzzi can me found on the last deck.
To the bow is a functional area with sun lounge and a touch & go helipad that can also be turned into an open-air cinema. The vessel has four decks with the owner’s cabin on the forward main deck and four double cabins below deck. There are 11 crew members accommodated in 7 cabins.
HYBRID ENGINE
With a tonnage of 499 GT, the Columbus Custom 50m can reach a maximum speed of 20 knots. At 12 knots, it has an autonomy of 3000 nautical miles. The diesel propulsion includes two MTU 16V 2000 M96L 1939 kW engines, while the electric propulsion uses two Kohler 175 kW generators.
During diesel/electric use, the hybrid system, created thanks to the consolidated experience of Palumbo Superyachts, uses the two electric engines at 100kW each, achieving a speed of around 9 knots.
Coupled with the diesel engines, these same electric engines can be used as shaft generators, allowing the vessel to navigate with generators off. A lithium battery pack of the latest generation is used as an energy back up, avoiding the possibility of blackout during the transition phase.
The Columbus Custom 50m will premier at the Monaco Yacht Show 2023.
