A mechanical failure happened on the megayacht “Domani”, a 45-metre pleasure boat built by Benetti in 2004 and fully refitted in 2019. The megayacht was rescued by the American Coast Guard.

The incident occurred on Saturday 7 May, around 7, while the vessel was approximately 25 miles off the coast of Grays Harbor, in Washington state. On board were seven passengers, all unharmed, who called in for help.

Making it impossible to sail the pleasure yacht was the flooding of the beach club and tender garage, caused by the fact that the aft hold door would no longer close.  Notwithstanding numerous attempts by the crew to resolve the issue, it was impossible to set sail.

In the images supplied by the American Coast Guard, rescue dinghies can be seen in the water, ready to take on the castaways. However, they were not needed.

The American Coast Guard sent the Cutter Active, which towed the Domani for ten hours, to the mouth of the Juan de Fuca Strait, where it was passed over to a towage company. The megayacht was then safely docked at Port Angeles, where it will be repaired.
