At the Porto Antico di Genova a manoeuvring yacht first damaged two tenders with its stern and then crashed against the barge pier with its bow. The incident took place on the afternoon of Sunday, 25 July, under the watching eyes of tourists and passers-by, walking along the pier at the Magazzini del Cotone who recorded the scene. A video that immediately went viral.

The motor yacht, Claremont, 32 metres long, used as a charter, had a few problems during docking manoeuvres at the Marina Molo Vecchio. The manoeuvres immediately seemed uncertain. While the stern came in close to the pier, it damaged two tenders already docked there.

After the impact, the commander suddenly increased speed and ended up crashing with the bow into the barge pier. During its “run”, the yacht also cut a cable on the floating structure.

The cause of the incident is still not fully known: among the hypotheses is an equipment malfunction, in particular with the inverter, which caused the captain to lose control of the engine regulation, as can be seen the moment the boat is put into forward gear, at an excessive speed, until impact.

Claremont is a motor yacht built in 2009 by VGB Superyachts and refitted in 2015, easily recognised with its black and gold hull. It can carry up to 8 people in 4 cabins, with 4 crew members. Its beam is 7.60 metres and draught is 1.30 metres. Its cruising speed is estimated at 21 knots, but it can reach a maximum speed of 27 knots. A vacation on board the m/y Claremont costs from 53,400 to 59,400 euros a week.
