A world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival for the Sanlorenzo SX120: fine design, Volvo Penta technology and sustainability
Sanlorenzo officially presents the SX120, the new yacht from their SX crossover series. Ready for its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the SX120 is a revolutionary design that unites innovative design, cutting edge technology and a sustainable vision of yachting.
SX120: innovation and sustainability witht he new IPS Professional platform by Volvo Penta
At the heart of the SX120 project is the new IPS Professional Platform by Volvo Penta. This advanced propulsion technology, presented at Boot Düsseldorf 2024, is debuting for the first time on a composite yacht of this size.
The system uses two 1000 HP engines per pod, guaranteeing high performance with reduced size, consumption, and emissions. It therefore represents a solid step forward for sustainable yachting, in like with Sanlorenzo’s work in reducing environmental impact without renouncing performance and comfort.
Design by Zuccon and Lissoni
Sanlorenzo SX120, with its 37 metres in length and 270 GT tonnage, is the biggest yacht built by the brand using the revolutionary SX concept. Thanks to the partnership with Zuccon International Project and Piero Lissoni, the SX120 is a sophisticated and contemporary yacht, created to provide a singular and fluid sailing experience, where every space has its dialogue with the water.
One of its distinctive elements is the beach area that can be extended up to 70m2, thanks to its collapsible lateral side deck. At the centre of this space is a hidden swimming pool, using a lift and slide moveable floor, providing functionality, privacy and integration with the surrounding environment.
Comfort and performance
The Sanlorenzo SX120 has four decks and provides a layout created to introduce a new living concept, with connected, flowing spaces opening out to the water. On the Main Deck there is a spectacular sculpted staircase in steel covered wood. To the stern, a panoramic dining area can accommodate up to 14 people. To the bow is the owner’s suite, with ocean view and direct access to an outdoor relaxation area that can be turned into a patio or solarium.
The Lower Deck includes four guest cabins, one of which can be converted into a lounge, a small hammam and crew area, providing flexibility of use and liveability. The Upper Deck has a 360° view, that can be adapted to the owner’s needs. Externally, this is connected to an innovative Sun Deck, which introduces the Smart Island, a concept of modular and moveable seating, created to provide a private, yet comfortable space.
SX120 and the technological revolution
In regards to technology, the SX120 is the first yacht in its category to install a new IPS Professional Platform by Volvo Penta, created to integrate both traditional and alternative sources of energy.
Thanks to its streamlined and compact architecture, it provides elevated performance, reduced consumption and fewer emissions, leaving space that can be turned into more living space on board,
The system includes an Eco Mode function, created to optimise performance during manoeuvring or low speed navigation, improving efficiency and reducing noise, fuel consumption and emissions. This is a concrete advantage for the environment and comfort on board. In addition, the sy.stem is equipped with an SCR exhaust gas treatment.
“The SX120 – explains Tommaso Vincenzi, CEO for Sanlorenzo – represents the natural evolution of a range which changed the concept of yachting. With this project, Sanlorenzo is redefining space, connection to the water and the on-board experience.”
Refined interiors with luxury materials
Designed by Piero Lissoni from Lissoni & Partners, the interior of the SX120 is an example of excellence. The use of fluted wood, steel inserts, parquet and marble-effect ceramics create sophisticated and welcoming spaces. In the owner’s cabin is an intriguing decorative element: a backlit headboard, designed to be a decorative room divider, separating the bed from the wardrobe, ensuring comfort and intimacy.
“The Sanlorenzo SX120 – notes Piero Lissoni – is a floating villa. We have taken everything we learned from the other Sxes and put it here, in an extraordinary design.”
