In the beautiful Porto Grande in Syracuse, is anchored the megayacht, “Launchpad”, the futuristic vessel owned by Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, and one of the richest people on the planet.
The yacht, 118 metres long, was launched in 2024 by Dutch shipyard Feadship, and came into the Sicilian port along with its support vessel, “Wingman”, 66 metres, built in 2014 by Damen Yacht Support, transporting tender, jet ski, and other water toys.
EXTREME LUXURY AND THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY
Zuckerberg’s megayacht was designed by Espen Øino International for the exterior and Zuretti Interior Design for the interiors. Among some of the more interesting aspects of this 300 million dollar superyacht are the forward heliport, a large beach club with basketball court, a gym, jacuzzi, private cinema, a spa and a beauty salon.
The vessel can accommodate up to 26 passengers in 13 cabins, along with 49 crew members. It is also equipped with advanced security systems, like “obscuring” its GPS positioning to provide maximum privacy while travelling. In regards to architecture, Launchpad has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. It has 4 diesel-electric MTU engines, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 24 knots.
THE VOYAGE OF THE LAUNCHPAD
According to local sources, the two vessels should remain in the city for the next few days, and then move on to an as yet unknown destination, where, most likely Zuckerberg himself will come on board. However, this is not the first time that the American billionaire’s megayacht has been to our country. In the summer of 2024, Mark Zuckerberg’s floating home was sighted in the waters off Lipari, Taormina and Terrasini, as well as along the Amalfi Coast.
