Francis Lapp, founder and president of Sunreef Yachts, a Polish shipyard specialised in building “green” custom catamarans, spoke to Daily Nautica during the first edition of the World Yachting Summit; he talked to us about where his passion came from and shared some future plans, all with a sustainable perspective.

Sunreef Yachts, sustainable boating

I am an engineer, and with this training – explains Lapp – I began working on my research for Sunreef Yachts years ago, patenting my results. Now we are leaders in the field of ecological catamarans and I am happy to promote the ecological side of technology.” The Polish shipyard is currently building the largest electric catamaran in the world, the Sunreef 43M Eco, and has received a number of international awards, for the quality if the results obtained and, obviously, for the sustainability of its vessels.

Sunreef Yachts follows the entire process, from idea to manufacture, in the Danzig site and, since 2022, their second site in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. And it is because of this that the company can follow their plans for advanced designs that are also custom, based on the results obtained each time. “Our work – notes the founder and president of the shipyard – is to do continuous research and we are already looking at new technology, from hydrogen to the solar cells of tomorrow.

Pioneering work that stems from a consistent belief, right from the beginning: “I am not working for company profit at the end of the month – notes Francis Lapp – but I want to work for the future of boating, for the future of our children.
