CRN is proceeding efficiently and with determination tot he final phases in the construction of the CRN M/Y 145 Project Thunderball, a completely custom, 70 metre displacement yacht in steel and aluminium. Work is continuing on schedule, with the carpentry work on the hull and superstructure complete, marking a significant step forward. Launch and delivery are planned for 2026.
Personalised in every aspect (from design to engineering), this vessel unites the design and construction know-how of CRN and Ferretti Group Superyachts Division with the experience of Vripack Yacht Design, who curated the exterior, preliminary naval architecture and preliminary general plans, and the creativity of Nauta Design studio, who curated the interior design and outdoor areas. During the design development phase, CRN workd on the engineering, the finalisation of the naval architecture and master plan, taking on, in addition, full management of thr project, from design to delivery.
Y.CO, as the owner’s representative and project management team, will assist the owner with their technical skills and careful supervision during construction, liaising with the shipyard in coordinating subcontractors and managing inspections, supervision and approval processes, to ensure that the project proceeds following the highest standards and perfectly fulfils the specific desires of the owner.
The CRN M/Y 145 Project Thunderball has a long traditional bow, a streamlined profile and a harmonious shape inspired by sailing yachts, along with slightly curved bilges and smooth surfaces. The design has been carefully studied for maximum efficiency during navigation and convenient and comfortable manoeuvrability, for a fluid and contemplative cruising experience. The interior concept is timeless and goes beyond trends, expressing a profound connection with seafaring culture, united with a sophisticated balance of iconic details and refined materials, where tradition and contemporaneity blend together to create a modern yet refined style.
Work progress on the exterior
Summer 2025 will be a decisive period for the exterior, with the careening phase being completed by the end of the season. Work is proceeding on all decks, with the installation of the on board systems at an advanced point. Structural elements are also hand-crafted, and the installation of metallic components is nearly complete. The design and production of the wooden details for the outdoor furniture is fully under way, with extraordinary attention to details. The hull should be fully varnished in September, once careening and priming are complete.
Completing the interiors
On schedule, compartmentalising the interior was completed in April, while, during the summer, the built-in furniture on the lower deck, for the crew and guest passengers, will begin. Work is continuing in the VIP areas on the owner’s deck, where the first cabins will be installed between June and July, and completed sections are being inspected to ensure all work is up to the highest standards. On the main deck, insulation of the main areas like the main saloon and bridge is complete, and the deck is currently being compartmentalised. Installing the first furnished areas on board, planned for the end of spring/beginning of summer, will represent an important achievement in furnishing the interiors: this is a part in construction where the yacht begins to take shape and character, based on the vision and specific requirements of the owner.
