The first edition of the World Yachting Summit in Monaco was a perfect opportunity to bring together some of the most important industry players and to talk to them about some of the most relevant topics fir the yachting industry today. Daily Nautica, media partner for the event, interviewed Patrick Coote, vice-president of the Superyacht Division for MarineMax; he spoke to us about brokers and the professionalism they need to provide services for their clients. Indeed, for over 40 years, MarineMax, one of the biggest boat and pleasure yacht resellers in the world, has been providing a complete range of services, skills and support to help their clients fully embrace the yachting lifestyle.
PROFESSIONALISM AND TRANSPARENCY
“Our objective – explains Patrick Coote to DN – is to improve the yachting industry for those who work in it, as well as for the clients we serve. In particular, one of the main topics during my session here at the World Yachting Summit was about the professionalism and transparency of brokers. The yachting industry, as we know, is very traditional, but unfortunately, it is also very much behind in certain aspects. For example, it is not highly regulated in terms of brokers and I believe there is a lot of room for improvement. I come from a brokerage background and would like to see highly qualified brokers supplying high level services.”
BROKER SKILLS
“The first question we need to ask ourselves – adds the vice-president of the Superyacht Division for MarineMax – is why a client has decided to purchase a vessel. More often than not it is because they want to relax, travel, and spend some time with their families. Brokers have to concentrate on these needs and ensure their clients have a perfect experience, free from any worries. So I am firmly convinced that a good broker needs to be an expert in the financial and technical skills of negotiation, but they also need to know how to combine all these skills and provide them to the client.”
