Let’s make a fresh fruit smoothie

A cure-all for when the heat becomes too much, healthy and low in calories: long live the smoothie

What is a smoothie?

This is a vitamin filled drink made of fruit (or vegetables) without or with very little milk or other ingredients. The smoothie has very little actual liquid, for this reason it is very thick and is low in calories.

Fruit normally used for smoothies are apples, pears and bananas, these have a fairly neutral taste and are then combined with other more acidic and colourful fruits.

If not mentioned otherwise, to make a smoothie, all you need to do is blend all the ingredients together for 60 second on high in your blender.

Here are two summer recipe ideas

Exotic smoothie

Ingredients:

3 bananas

2 mangoes

6 ice cubes

1/2 glass of orange juice if you want it more liquid

Method:

Wash and peel the fruit, blend the ingredients together for at least a minute.

Watermelon smoothie

Ingredients:

300g watermelon

200ml apple juice

1 handful blueberries

2 scoops lemon sorbet

Method:

Blend together the watermelon, almost all the blueberries and the apple juice. Blend on high power for at least one minute. Serve the smoothie with a scoop of sorbet or two slices of lemon for each glass, then top with the remaining blueberries.
