Nauta Design restores the interior of the 56 metre sailing yacht, “Caoz 14”
The refit by the Milanese studio focused on opening the spaces and comfort, as well as adding light and homeyness
Launched in 2007 as Selene (then renamed Parsifal IV), Caoz 14, a 56 metre sailing yacht by Perini Navi, has been completely refitted in its interior by Nauta Design. The Milanese design studio was charged by its new owner to transform its dated interior space, to adapt the vessel built by the Tuscan shipyard, for family use while also making it more comfortable and contemporary.
BRIGHT AND COMFORTABLE OPEN SPACE
Harmony, tranquillity and light are the key words chosen for the refit by the Genoese, MMC Allestimenti, who completely freed the available surface from partitions and enclosures so as to obtain a bright and open space overlooking the seascape.
“We wanted to restore the yacht – explains the owner – starting with the interior making it modern and warm, spacious and welcoming.” And so, by eliminating the left side corridor for crew use and demolishing the closed space of the stairs, Nauta Design brought a feeling of airy space that was missing.
“Our objective – noted Mario Pedol – co-founder of the design studio that patented the stern beach – was to open up the space to allow nature’s beauty to enter the yacht. We therefore worked on eliminating the structures and impediments that were blocking the view and complicating the interior.”
With the uninterrupted flow from aft to stern and starboard to port, they obtained a full beam day area, overlooking the sea on both sides of the hull. Even the staircase was lightened thanks to the use of suspended steps attached to a central structure protected by a transparent space.
The forward area is dedicated to a relaxation and TV area which is also perfect as a children’s play room, separated from the wheelhouse by darkening privacy glass. Privacy glass is also used to separate the main living space from the cockpit (reorganised with bespoke furniture): the previous opaque doors have been replaced by automatic sliding glass doors.
DESIGN DETAILS AND DOMOTICS
“Even studying ergonomics, service corridors and their functionality – concludes the co-founder of Nauta Design – played an important role. The objective was maximum comfort on board, to satisfy the needs of the owner who wanted a lot of space for books, art and other collections. And so we created niches, shelves and other storage and display areas, both open and closed.”
All decorated using neutral and elegant hues, with oak, white lacquer, light coloured textiles, and enhanced by an intelligent lighting system, which can create a number of different scenes through the use of lights in the ceiling and rope lights along the shelves and kickers. Domotics also govern the other internal systems, such as windows and blinds.
There are a number of well-known names in design in the furniture, such as the iconic chaise longue by Vitra, designed by Charles and Ray Earnes, the exterior seating by Dedon, and lights by FontanaArte, Oluce, and Artemide.
