Project 715 by Feadship, now named Valor, has left the shipyard’s manufacturing facility in Aalsmeer, Netherlands. Nearly 80 metres long with a steel hull, this explorer yacht was commissioned by an expert owner, who wants to traverse the “Northwest passage”, the most direct route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, through Canada’s Arctic archipelago, then moving on to visit some of the most inhospitable places on the planet.
Project 715, a world explorer
For this long term travel in extreme climates, Project 715 by Feadship is equipped with a 2 metre ice belt encircling the hull above and below the waterline to achieve a Bureau Veritas Young Ice 2 notation, ideal for sailing through recently formed ices (grey or off-white, depending on the provision), with a maximum thickness of 30 centimetres.
The yacht features a Hybrid Diesel-Electric, Solar, Battery powered propulsion system developed through the Feadship Advanced Electrical Drive (FAED) program. Instead of main engines and auxiliary generators, project 715 by Feadship draws propulsion energy and power for her household systems from four variable speed, ultra efficient generators linked to a DC power grid and a water-cooled 5.34-megawatt hour lithium-ion battery bank.
This is a high performing propulsion system, showcasing the North European company’s work in creating a sustainable future and its continuous drive for innovation. Today the electrical power supply is over five times that of the breakthrough Savannah, the 83.50m superyacht launched by Feadship in 2015.
