Tobias Kohl, lead for Application Engineering Marine & Offshore for Rolls-Royce Solutions in Friedrichshafen, Germany, spoke during the first edition of the World Yachting Summit in Monaco, about the engines and fuel of the future. His specialisation focuses on developing alternative systems to reduce CO2 footprints through the use of sustainable energy sources and improved efficiency systems in modern propulsion systems like hybrid engines, and the post-treatment practices for waste gas.

Daily Nautica, as media partners for the event, interviewed him to talk more in depth about his approach. “Optimising fuel consumption – he told us – is, simply put, important, no matter the fuel type.  Because we also need to focus on the performance of current propulsion systems. I am pleased that in Monaco we didn’t just talk about the technology of the future.”

Green alternatives, noted Kohl, already exist and can be applied: “But our Research & Development department – he explains to DN – works alongside external engineering firms and universities to expand the prospects and to provide shipyards and yacht owners the best solutions.”
