With their experience and thirst for innovation, Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman, accepted a challenge worthy of the Guinness Book of World Records. This is the construction of Project 406, the biggest fishing boat in the world. In addition to a portfolio of over thirty sailing yachts, Royal Huisman is increasingly being seen as the shipyard to go to for large motor yachts.

Project 406, or, if you prefer, “Big Fisher”, is a 52-metre long sporting yacht, with Alustar aluminium hull and a towering height of six decks. The first phase of construction work has already been completed at the Vollenhove site in the Netherlands, and is ready for the installation of the upper deck, the hardtop and radar.

AN UNCOMMON SHIP

Big Fisher is a singular vessel under many aspects, one above others is its versatility. Thanks to its size, the vessel can be used both as a high end sport fishing vessel, as well as a super luxurious yacht. The interior and exterior design is the work of word famous, Vripack Yacht Design Studio, who left their distinctive mark. The long bow, high gunwales extending to a tidy and low cockpit to the stern, typical of a fishing boat, stand out straight away. In addition, the sky lounge on the upper deck provides an exceptional view, with an angle perfect for specialised fishing.

INNOVATION AND TRADITION

In addition to its record size, the Big Fisher is, without a doubt, the most luxurious sport fishing yacht ever, complete with all the comforts expected on a superyacht. After all, Royal Huisman is considered to be one of the few shipyards capable of building such a bespoke project. The boat was designed and built by the shipyard’s team, made up of over 350 experts and highly qualified co-manufacturers. Testing of most of the on board systems and other innovative technology is currently under way, before final transport and the imminent final tests.

A sport fishing vessel – notes chief executive officer for Royal Huisman, Jan Timmermaneven an exceptional one like this, seems to be an unusual assignment for a shipyard known mostly for its magnificent sailing yachts. But that’s not the case. Founded in 1884, our shipyard began as a builder of wooden fishing and work vessels. We are proud and excited to be building a truly unique and exceptional sporting yacht that harkens back to the work of the yard’s founders.”
