Launch of the Sorvind

SØRVIND is the name of the new bluewater sailing yacht belonging to the Southern Wind fleet, launched from Cape Town on 3 March. SØRVIND is the fifth unit of the renowned SW105 project  and is a high performance sailing yacht that incorporates the characteristics of a racing yacht while still maintaining a beautiful aesthetic and a high level of comfort.

SØRVIND: RELIABILITY AND COMFORT WITH A “NORDIC COOL” SPIRIT

Coming from a partnership between Southern Wind, Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design, SØRVIND represents the vision of a yacht owner who wants fast sailing, but at the same time, desires comfort incarnating a “Nordic Cool” spirit.

SØRVIND was conceived to guarantee sailing pleasure and reliability without compromising on comfort. Like its twin SW105s Wolfhound and Kiboko Tres, the SW105#05 has a “Raised Saloon” (RS) configuration allowing natural light to reach the interior. The design and geometry of the deckhouse have been modified and softened to give SØRVIND a sporty and elegant aspect.

The naval architecture of the SW105 was designed to accommodate three different keel configurations: fixed, telescopic and lifting, based on the preferences of different owners. The SW105 has wide sections on the stern and an open transom, ensuring an ample deck space and large interior spaces. The modern design of the SW105 can be seen in its single level deck: in addition to a safe passage, this layout creates a continuous line from the stern to the deckhouse, giving the yacht a long and narrow profile.

SØRVIND: SPACE AND LIGHTNESS

In order to reduce its weight, a special assembly process was developed for the carbon fibre hull, deck and bulkheads: the result is a yacht weighing 69,500 kg that can also sail in light wind conditions, without needing to depend on its engine. The garage and lazarette have been designed to hold a 4.3m tender, kayak, paddle board, wind foil and a number of other pieces in order to ensure fun both on land and at sea.

SØRVIND’S INTERIORS

SØRVIND has an owner’s cabin to the bow and three well furnished guest cabins midship. The crew area, to the stern, can house up to six crew members over three cabins.

The “Nordic Cool” style interiors were designed by the same team that led to the Seatius winning the “Best Sailing Yacht Interior” award in 2018. Nauta Design was the interior designer and  Jeroen Machielsen from the Dutch studio, Hermanides curated the decoration.

Marco Alberti, director and general manager at Southern Wind, presented the yacht and wished the owners “exciting sailing adventures”. SØRVIND is now preparing for many hours trialling at sea, before leaving Cape Town for its maiden voyage in the Mediterranean.
